Top 5 dental products we can’t live without
As dentists, we are passionate about oral health, and keeping our mouths healthy with good quality products that actually work.
As part of our jobs, we also learn about the latest developments, and trial lots of new products. We value dental products that stand the test of time, have proven scientific evidence that they do what they say they should do, and are also affordable.
Here are our top 5 dental products we really can’t live without (and that help keep our mouths healthy!)
1. Electric toothbrush: We have both the Oral-B Genius 9000 ($189.50 from Dental Quarters) and the Philips Sonicare brushes. They are both great, and you can find the reviews done by our Claremont dentists here (Oral-B) and here (Sonicare).
2. Manfloss ($29 from Dental Quarters Claremont) for the adults, and marine animal flossettes ($1.50 for a pack of 4) for the kids: Toothbrushing alone just isn’t enough to keep your teeth and gums healthy. So we floss our own teeth nightly, and also the kids teeth too. For us, Manfloss is a favourite, it’s been designed by a local dental hygienist with over 20 years’ experience. It’s smooth, it’s strong, and it’s also black, so you can see all the nasties you’re removing! We also have refills available for purchase too when you run out of your main pack. Refills are $15 available from our Claremont dental practice. For the kids, we love the marine animal flossettes. The kids love to use them, and they are also easy for parents to use (important!). It’s a win-win!
3. Toothpaste: We use Colgate Total Toothpaste for ourselves, and Colgate My First for our kids who are under 6 years of age. It’s important to use an age appropriate toothpaste for your kids so that the concentration of fluoride is safe for their age.
4. GC Tooth Mousse Plus: The ultimate holy grail product, this nifty paste can help with tooth sensitivity, tooth discolouration and can even reverse early decay on your teeth. It really is as amazing as it sounds.
5. Tongue scraper: I use a tongue scraper after I brush my teeth because the tongue harbours a lot of bacteria in the mouth. I’ve found this one from Dr Tung’s is easy to use and durable.
