Same day CEREC Crown Process

With the use of an intraoral scanner, your dentist will take a digital impression of your teeth (no traditional impression required!). Your dentist will then design your restoration using CAD technology. Finally, once the design is ready, your dentist will manufacture the crown using a milling machine or 3D printer, and fit the final crown.

Traditional crowns vs. CEREC crowns

Traditional crowns are often made of zirconia, porcelain, metals or a combination of these. CEREC crowns, on the other hand, are milled from a ceramic material with a finish that looks identical to healthy teeth.

Traditional crowns are manufactured in an off-site dental laboratory, meaning that the process requires at least two sessions. CEREC crowns are designed and manufactured in-house in just a couple of hours – saving you an extra trip to the practice.

Both types of crowns are used to fix damaged, misshapen, discoloured or decayed teeth.

The cost of CEREC crowns

Many might suspect that CEREC crowns cost more than traditional crowns because of the sophisticated machinery that is used to manufacture them.

In reality, there is no difference in cost for the patient because the use of in-house CAD/CAM technology eliminates the lab fees that are normally added to the cost of traditional crowns.
