New years’ resolutions for healthier teeth

Now that 2021 is here, now is a great time to think about some new years’ resolutions. And there’s nothing better than setting some new goals for healthier teeth, a healthier mouth and a healthier you!

Here’s our top tips for healthier teeth in 2021:

  1. Floss, floss, floss. Set a goal to clean in between your teeth once a day. The good thing is, if you hate flossing, you don’t have to use floss. There are so many other options now that you don’t have to use floss if you don’t want to. Try a floss alternative such as flossettes (floss sticks), interdental brushes (e.g. Piksters or Tepe interdental brushes), of, if you really want to go all out, invest in a water flosser. These amazing machines clean in between your teeth for you by pulsing a strong jet of air in between your teeth. These days there are plenty of interdental cleaning options for everyone. No excuses!
  2. Pre-book your 6 monthly dental visits. This way you have the appointments set aside already in your calendar. At our Claremont dental clinic, we contact you 2 weeks before you scheduled appointment in case you need to change the time or date. Because, life happens and it’s hard to know exactly what you’ll be doing 6 months’ in advance.
  3.  Make important switches. Switch Coke for Sparkling water, switch chewing gum for Recaldent chewing gum (this amazing stuff repairs your teeth while you chew!), switch snacking on lollies through the day to a little treat at meal times. These small changes can make a big difference!
  4. Don’t go to bed without brushing and flossing. Make it a habit, and you will find you can’t recall when you didn’t do it!
  5. Treat yourself to an electric toothbrush (if you don’t already have one)
