How you can trial your new smile before you buy

Technology has really helped dentistry over the years, improving the level and quality of the service and treatment we can provide.

One of the technologies that we love here at Dental Quarters is Digital Smile Design. This revolutionary technology enables patients to ‘try before they buy’ when it comes to having a smile makeover. It helps dentist to create smiles that are harmonious with a patients’ personality and their facial features.

It can be scary thinking about changing your smile, as it may not be possible to know what the end result will look like. Digital Smile Design (DSD) takes this problem away for patients as they can trial their new smile and make changes accordingly. Did you know we can even use a smile as a ‘donator’ to create your new smile. This could be a photo of a celebrity whose smile you have always liked, a family member, or even yourself in younger days.

That way you can be confident with an end result you are completely happy with.

Here’s the basic process of DSD at Dental Quarters:

  1. Consultation: our DSD trained dentists will discuss with you the concerns you have with your smile, including the colour of your teeth, alignment of your teeth and shape of your teeth.
  2. We then do a 3D scan of your teeth to create digital models of your teeth. We also take photos of your smile and your face.
  3. With this data, we digitally create a smile fitting to those areas that you want to change. We use a 3D model of your teeth created from your previous scan to create a hard copy of your new smile.
  4. We then use a template of your new smile to create a ‘trial smile’ using temporary material, in your mouth. This is a totally removable material which is used just for the purpose of the appointment. It enables you to see how the concerns you have would be corrected.
  5. You can then give us feedback on what you think of your ‘new smile’, and the great thing is we can use your feedback to make changes according to what you want.
  6. If you are happy with the final design, we discuss what methods we can use to achieve it, give you an idea on the cost and make some plans to makeover your smile!

Here’s some photos to show the process of using Digital Smile Design to craft your new smile. Please note these images are from the Digital Smile Design website and are not indicative of treatment done on our own patients. They are for demonstrative purposes only.
