Glam Smile, Lumineers, Snap on Smile.. what’s the difference?
Having a beautiful perfect smile is big business these days. People feel more confident with a beautiful smile. Societal ideals also seem to be focusing on physical appearance and teeth are definitely included in this list. (Along with lips, face, body… you name it!)
For someone who is looking into a ‘smile makeover’, terms and brand names can be confusing, so I thought I would do an explanation and comparison in this blog post.
So, if you’re looking to get veneers or a smile makeover, you may have heard of Glam Smile, Lumineers, Snap on Smile (just to name a few). What exactly is the difference between these treatments and conventional veneers you would get done at a dentist?
Glam Smile and Lumineers are basically brand names for veneer procedures. Most general dentists can perform veneer procedures on patients. This usually involves minimal adjustment of the teeth, taking moulds of the teeth, having them made by a dental technician, and then having them glued on the teeth a few weeks later. We do veneer treatments, but we just call them veneers, not Glam Smile or Lumineers.
Glam Smile and Lumineers can only be performed by a ‘qualified’ dentist who actively use their systems. Their main advertising point is minimal pain, minimal adjustment and a cheaper price point for the patient.
Glam Smile seems to be the popular Australian version of Lumineers (from the US).
In short, these companies basically do what most general dentists can do, but the production of the veneers is outsourced by the treating dentist.

So should you get Glam Smile or Lumineers?
Ultimately it’s up to you. I would recommend you do your research first. You could always go for a consultation to find out the costs and information before making a firm decision either way.
In my opinion, I feel you would still get a great result, and possibly more tailored service from most general dentists, not just a Glam Smile dentist. Not all general dentists will have the 3D CAD-CAM technology that the Glam Smile company uses, so you may want to call and find out first.

TOOTH PREPARATION – can be minimal for both; depends on the individual’s teeth as to how much tooth must be adjusted
VENEER MATERIAL – they use e.max, which most general dentists would be able to use
TIME TO GET IT DONE – Glam Smile takes about 4 weeks and 2 appointments. Conventional veneers take about 1-2 weeks and 2 appointments.
HOW THEY DO THE PROCEDURE – uses 3D CAD-CAM technology. Some general dentists will also have the same technology, so call ahead to find out.
So what about Snap on Smile?
Snap on Smile is basically like wearing false teeth that ‘clip’ on to your natural teeth. It’s a great alternative for those that really can’t afford conventional veneers or crowns. Honestly, I view it more as a temporary solution. It can’t be easy to try and eat wearing resin that goes over your own teeth. You also have to remove it and clean it like a denture. Again, you must see a Snap on Smile certified dentist to receive this treatment.
