Early Release of Super Claremont dental Perth dentistry cosmetic dentist

Early Release of Super to pay for dental work

At Dental Quarters, we are passionate about helping people to achieve a smile they would love. Sometimes the problems with their smile can be complex, and the ideal treatment option may be costly. This can all be overwhelming, and this can cause some people to delay fixing their teeth, or postpone it indefinitely.

Fortunately, if cost is a factor, you may be eligible to access your Superannuation to pay for your dental work. There are specific criteria for this, and of course relevant paperwork must be submitted to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). You can find out more information directly from the ATO here.

Are you eligible for Early Release of Superannuation for dental work?

You must fulfil these criteria set out by the ATO in order to withdraw your Super to pay for dental work (or transport costs) for yourself, or a dependent:

  1. The treatment must be conducted by a registered medical practitioner (e.g. a dentist who is registered with AHPRA)
  2. The treatment must be for a life-threatening illness or injury
  3. The treatment must be to alleviate acute or chronic pain
  4. The treatment you need is not readily available through the public health system

How do you apply for Early Release of Superannuation for dental work?

  1. You will need to have a consultation or examination (x-rays may also be required) to advise you on what treatment is needed. You will then need a quote or treatment plan outlining the costs for the treatment. You cannot use your Super to pay for treatment that has already been paid previously.
  2. You will need two reports from registered medical practitioners. There may be an associated fee for these reports. You cannot claim the cost for this from your Super payments. The reports must be dated less than 6 months from the date you submit your application.
  3. You will need to complete this form either online or on paper and submit it to the ATO.
  4. Please also check prior to submitting your application that your particular Super fund allows early release of funds.
