DIY Tooth Whitening: Oral B 3D White Whitestrips LUXE
In this blog post, I’m reviewing Oral B 3D White Whitestrips LUXE. They are easy to purchase from most supermarkets, and are a great intermediary for those who aren’t prepared to try conventional tooth whitening methods.
They are basically thin strips coated with tooth whitening gel. The strips conform to the shape of your teeth to hold the gel there. It’s a cheaper version of the custom-made whitening trays which are made at dental surgeries.
The Oral B website states that the strips can remove 10 years of stains in as little as 14 days. What concerns me about this statement is that if it only removes stains, it isn’t really changing the colour of the teeth, it’s just whitening them by stain removal. Most conventional whitening methods done by dentists are actually to whiten teeth by changing their shade, not by removing stains.

Oral B 3D White Whitestrips LUXE. Comes in a pack of 14 strips, or 28 strips. Contains 6% Hydrogen Peroxide. I tried it for 4 weeks, 1 hour at a time.
COST:
Our kit was from Coles, and cost $49.50 (for 28 strips).
EASE OF USE:
Very easy to use with clear instructions. One tip that is helpful is to make sure your teeth are very dry before sticking the strip on. Otherwise I found the strips wouldn’t stick very well.
TASTE:
The strips had little to no taste.

VERDICT:
The strips were moderately effective, and my teeth stayed white for 1-2 days – not the 12 months advertised on the packaging! It really isn’t suitable if you want long term results, but if you just want a quick whitening solution, this would be fine. I’d recommend it just before a special occasion or event, use it for a few nights prior.
One of my teeth did get sensitive after using the strips, but I think this was more my fault because I left the strip on for slightly too long.

Three stars for this product, but make sure you are aware of what results you are going to get. It definitely isn’t a substitute for conventional whitening, it just isn’t going to make your teeth considerably whiter.
