Starting my Invisalign journey – the first weeks

I am so excited to have finally started my Invisalign treatment! I wanted to write a blog post in the first few weeks for anyone that was thinking of having Invisalign! Plus it’s good to document how everything feels initially, because it’s easy to forget as time passes.

Here I am at work with my Invisalign aligners in! You’ll notice I have lots of attachments on my front teeth, I specifically wanted this! Attachments are tooth coloured ‘buttons’ that are put on your teeth to help them to move properly during the treatment. If it isn’t your preference, you may be able to avoid having them on your front teeth.

A bit about me…

I’ve actually had braces before, several years ago, but it didn’t fully straighten my teeth. After seeing so many happy patients who had Invisalign, I couldn’t wait to try it for myself.

Putting the aligners in for the first time…

For me, it didn’t feel too weird putting the aligners in because I was used to wearing retainers from when I had my braces. The aligners actually feel pretty similar to retainers, but they are a bit tighter and the material is more rigid. They are a bit tricky to put in initially, but after a couple of tries, I got used to it quite quickly.

How it felt…

The edges of the aligners were a bit sharp to begin with, so it irritated the insides of my mouth for the first few days. After this, it went away. There was some discomfort for the first 1-2 days, but after day 3-4 it felt fine. I was surprised that I didn’t even have to take any pain mediation.

What people said…

Not much! Not many people could actually tell, the ones that did notice it were people that wanted to have Invisalign themselves!

Braces vs. Invisalign

Now that I’ve started my treatment, I can say that braces were definitely more painful! I remember I couldn’t eat an apple for a whole week. It’s been a lot easier and less painful getting used to Invisalign!

Aligners need to be removed when eating, so I’m loving being able to eat all the foods that I normally do!

The best things about Invisalign…

The treatment is really easy to follow, and I loved that I could see the before and after photos and videos on the computer before I decided to go ahead with my treatment.

You can take a look at this quick video I took of my before and after photos and videos!

The worst thing about Invisalign…

I can’t snack all the time! I’m a serial snacker, but I get lazy to remove my aligners so many times, so I’ve had to stop my snacking habit! This is probably a good thing for my diet plan!!!
