Dental accreditation: why is it important?

Dental Quarters Claremont has been awarded full practice accreditation for the second time in a row until September 2019! We are so thankful to our entire team for all their hard work they have contributed to this complex and time consuming process. You may have seen the recent post on our Instagram or Facebook pages and were wondering what all the fuss is about?

Our dental accreditation process started in 2014, when our practice exceeded the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS) and gained accreditation for 2 years.

NSQHS are specific guidelines that are outlined on behalf of the Government by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care. They are developed in association with the Australian Dental Association with the aim to protect the health of patients by “enforcing the highest possible standards for safety in a dental practice”.

What is dental accreditation?

Dental accreditation is an independent review that tests whether a dental practice is able to meet the criteria set for that industry. Currently, accreditation is voluntary. Most dental practices in Australia aren’t accredited due to the high cost, time and difficulty in achieving the high standards required.

Dental accreditation is important to us to ensure that our standards are verified against the gold standard as detailed in the NSQHS.

Here’s why you can have peace of mind by choosing an accredited dental practice:

  1. Quality dental services and patient safety is of utmost importance
  2. All staff have received adequate training and education to perform their duties to this very high standard
  3. Accreditation is renewed on a 2 yearly basis to ensure that standards are up-kept (and to keep us on our toes to always improve)
