Hismile 2.0: Does the new stuff actually work?
Going back 4 years ago to 2017, HiSmile was the ‘it’ product of home teeth whitening products. Social media influencers and Kylie Jenner made the products hugely successful on social media, and sales went through the roof.
Fast forward to today, and HiSmile is trying to re-invent itself both as a brand and as a product. Some of you may recall that in 2017, Claudia reviewed the products and found they didn’t really live up to the hype. You can read it here.
We were pleasantly surprised to hear that HiSmile has now entirely changed the active ingredients in their products, toned down the use of social media influencers, and instead focused on scientific evidence and providing a product that gives the results they promise.
So we were pretty excited to try out the new formulation, and also hear about the new slant for the brand, including all new toothpastes and mouthwashes.
DETAILS:
HiSmile teeth whitening kit. The kit contains 6 X whitening gel ‘pods’, 1 X LED Light, 1 X Mouth Tray, 1 X Shade Guide, 1 X Instruction Manual.
Ingredients: Glycerin, Water/Aqua, Phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid, Potassium Citrate, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Hydroxyapatite, PVP, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Saccharin, Aroma/Peppermint Oil, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Piroctane Olamin.
COST:
Retails for $149 (but there’s currently 30% off).
EASE OF USE:
Very easy to use with clear instructions. The instructions were easy to follow. Kit was really simple and straightforward to use.
You use the gel in the mouth tray (with light) for 10 minutes at a time.
TASTE:
Taste wasn’t very sour and unpleasant.

VERDICT:
Definitely a much better improvement on the previous formulation. This would be a great solution for somebody who doesn’t want to use peroxide ingredients. HiSmile did stress that their product is not a replacement for general teeth whitening products containing peroxide, as these are still gold standard for achieving white teeth.
I did find my teeth were sensitive after the second application, but they do generally get a bit sensitive when I whiten them. I would recommend using a sensitive toothpaste prior to use.
I also found that I would probably need to do multiple applications to see a good result. So if you are prepared to do this, this may be a good product for you to try. The 10 minute application time was fast and easy to do.
